Funding for transformation is challenging. Many new donors either don't try (and continue to fund traditional organisations and issues) or are disappointed when their initial investments don't result in the change they expected.  This can happen because new social investors often may not have the experience and insight to understand the dynamics, complexities and challenges of an issue such as, for example, climate change or social exclusion.  This can also happen because, in truth, the answers to the big issues we face in our world today are largely unknown even by the most experienced of us.

With this, there is hope and opportunity. Many important, potentially transforming projects and organisations exist here in Australia and in the Pacific region.  These projects and organisations are clearly making a difference to the whole.  And, there are also great entrepreneurial ideas from the leaders of Australia's non profit community which require initial seed funding, and if tested and proven, have an enormous potential to make change happen.  At a time when action is urgently required and the will is there by our growing group of new, emerging donors, it is critical to offer the link.

Greenstone Group has worked with the most experienced and progressive private foundations and philanthropists in Australia, and with the help from philanthropic leaders around the world, to bring these projects into light so that our emerging philanthropists and major donors can make informed, inspired decisions.  This creation is the Social Investment Guide 2009.
